5 Ways to Regain Motivation

Well, it's been a hot minute, or two. But I am back in action! Sometimes, life just gets in the way. The same goes for our nutrition and exercise plans. Life throws us curve balls and we get off course. And I promise, IT WILL BE OK!

Motivation is one of the hardest tasks to keep up with. Some days, it's sky-high and we feel we can take on the world. Other days, we'd rather hide under the blanket, forever. Having roller coaster levels of motivation is without a doubt, completely 100% normal. Remember, it's not lost forever, we just have to dig it up again. So, let's chat about some ways to reignite that spark!

1. Change it up

One of the top reasons I get into funks is because I am going through the motions. It's the same sort of routine day in and out. Don't get me wrong, I am the type of person who does much better with a daily routine. But when we eat the same foods, do the same workouts, listen to the same music, it gets old.

Keep things interesting! I love testing out new recipes and adding them to our dinner rotation. All those workouts you have pinned on Pinterest, give them a try! Throw in some new moves and challenge yourself. Our bodies adapt quickly to change, so it's important to keep ourselves on our toes.

2. Music

Time to pump it up! Music can make all the difference in our energy and motivation levels, especially our workouts. Before, during and after, keep that music going. Let it drive you to start that workout, push you through the session to finish strong and follow up with a job well done. Mix up your playlists to keep you moving.

Sometimes I need some Tupac and Biggie to power through hard days, or pop music like Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande to remind me summer will come again. Lately, I've been listening to Jennifer Lopez Pandora to get my heart rate up. The Latin music on that station gives off a flare to keep me going!

3. Social media

You're probably thinking, no thank you! Social media can definitely make us feel worst because we tend to compare ourselves to others. But there are a lot of positive traits to it as well. Following your favorite trainers or dietitians can really spark something within you. But, it's extremely important to remember, people post mostly about the good things in their life. We have to remind ourselves, not everyone's life is as perfect as it seems. Find those accounts that inspire you and make you feel good about yourself. Some of my favorites include actress Julianne Hough, fitness star Anna Victoria and the Tone It Up girls, Kat & Katrina!

4. Celebrate your wins

Our triumphs are what keep us moving forward. No matter how small, celebrate them! Did you go for a walk at lunch? Win! Did you replace one sugary drink with a glass of water? Win! This sounds silly, but celebrate you. It's so important to be kind to ourselves. If you did one thing for yourself each day, that's a win!

5. Give yourself a pep talk

LET'S GO! Those days where you just do not want to workout or cook that meal, talk to yourself. It's time to ask:

Will I feel better if I accomplish this?

What will happen if I don't do it?

How can I make this process more fun?

We think of exercising and cooking as chores. It's time to turn that mindset around; don't think "I have to workout", think of it as "I get to workout!". Get yourself geared up to conquer the challenge. Have you ever regretted a workout?

Motivation is a hard concept to keep up with, but we make it harder on ourselves. One thought throughout the day can make or break our drive. So give yourself the option each day - are you ready to tackle the world or would you rather sit back and watch others conquer it?
